Convergence Stool (2023)
Conceptual investigation of nature and urbanization in the Rotterdam area of Delfshaven.
The stool’s top seat is made of Douglas fir squares arranged in a 3x4 pattern, and attached to the legs with draw pin joints. The design contrasts the organic feel of the wood’s end grain with crisp, geometric shapes.
The symmetrical meeting of the two oblique legs with the seat represents the meeting point of nature and urbanization in the Delfshaven area. These components currently coexist inharmonious, as shown by the non-parallel legs. But the imagined continuous line they create points to a future where these elements converge in harmony.
