Shibori Textures (2022)
People know Shibori as the art of dyeing using knots as a tool to create repetitive motif on fabric.
The goal of this project was to repurpose this technique substituting the “color” element with a texture element, with the use of heat manipulation on “heat-manleable” textile.

Common household objects such as beads, marbles, paper clips, bottle caps, coins, pencils, and thread are used as texturing tools; the fabric gets knotted in repeptitive patterns, just like in traditional shibori.

The knotted samples were boiled in hot water and dried under the sun. Once they were completely dried and stiff, the thread was ready to be removed.
And just like traditional shibori, the result was a beautiful and intricate motif of shapes.
